Visa Applications Centres (VACs) in India are starting to offer limited biometrics appointments for those who are coming to Canada to permanently reunite with family and those who are coming to study at one of the approved designated learning Institutions. Clients in India who are applying for permanent residence in the family class as a spouse, partner, or dependent child as well as study permit applicants who plan to study at one of the approved DLIs in Canada can now book an appointment to enrol their biometrics at a VAC.

Located worldwide, VACs are private companies with formal contracts with the Canadian government, and are staffed to speak the local language. VACs provide assistance for the completion of visa applications, and also provide access to computers for applying online and securely sending in a visa application and passport to the visa office.

VACs are the official locations where visa applicants can submit their biometrics – that is, a photograph and fingerprints – after submitting their visa application.

As VACs in India reopen, biometrics appointments can be booked at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune in India. All appointments will have to be confirmed in advance. As of now, walk-ins are not permitted at the VACs. To book an appointment, clients must complete the online web form on the VAC website in advance and wait for the VAC to confirm the appointment by email.

According to the High Commission of Canada in India, those with a unique Biometric Instructions Letter [BIL] issued by IRCC will be sent further instructions via email as to the process for scheduling their biometric appointments.

Additionally, Indians accounted for more than one-third of the over 640,000 international students hosted by Canada in 2019.
