Stewardship Forester

This is a great opportunity for you to work with various proponents on the land base and implement new technologies, practices and standards in the field.

As a Licensed Science Officer 2 –Stewardship Forester , you provide professional advisory services as a specialist in a field of expertise of program area, (e.g. Forest Health, Forest and Range Evaluation Program (FREP), Silviculture, Fuel/Fire Management, Ecosystem Restoration, Timber Supply Reviews and Land Based Investment Strategy) to support natural resource management and decision making.If you have experience in natural resource management and performing technical duties we encourage you to apply.

Dawson Creek is a historical and beautiful town located in the Peace River District. Best known as the Alaska Highway Mile ‘0’ site, Dawson Creek has many nooks and crannies to explore with outdoor activities like bird watching and hiking past waterfalls in alpine meadows and mountains ridges. Camping and fishing spots can be found in the provincial parks of Swan Lake and Kiskatinaw. Downhill and cross-country skiing at the nearby Bear Mountain is popular with locals and those in nearby towns. Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Forestry or Natural Resource Management and 3 years of current (gained over the last 5 years) directly related experience or

Diploma and 5 years of current directly related experience or

Combination of education and current directly related experience

Current directly related experience includes operational field forestry such as forest tenure field development, engineering, silviculture, harvest operations or compliance and enforcement.

Registration as a professional forester with the Association of BC Forest Professionals, or immediately eligible for registration as a professional forester

Experience organizing and managing complex initiatives

Valid BC Driver’s Licence – class 5 preferred

Provisos

Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.

Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.

Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.

Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

Must be willing and able to become certified to operate ATV’s and snowmobiles
