July 14 OINP draw

July 14 OINP draw – Ontario invites 755 skilled trades workers for PR nomination

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited 755 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent resident nominations in the July 14 OINP draw.

The July 14 OINP draw was for candidates in OINP’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream. Candidates needed to have a profile in Canada’s Express Entry system.

As well, candidates in July 14 OINP draw must have Comprehensive Ranking System score of 310 points. Candidates needed to submit Express Entry profiles into the federal pool within the 12 months preceding the draw date to qualify.

If you received an invitation in the April 26 OINP draw you now have 45 calendar days to apply for the provincial nomination.

OINP and the Federal Express Entry immigration system

Canadian provinces do not have the ability to give out permanent residency status. However, they can nominate your for PR if you have a profile in the federal Express Entry immigration system.

Express Entry is the application system that Canada uses to manage skilled worker applications. It is also the most popular way to immigrate to Canada. You can receive a permanent residence invitation by applying through Express Entry directly and skipping the PNP process. However, having a provincial nomination effectively guarantees that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will invite you to apply for Canadian permanent residence in any of its Express Entry draws.

How does OINP nomination help your Canada immigration application?

Applying for a provincial nomination is not the same as applying for Canadian permanent residence. Rather a nomination effectively means the province is guaranteeing that the federal government will issue you an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence in one of its Express Entry draws.

Candidates who receive provincial nomination get an additional 600 points for Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A total of 1,200 points is available under Express Entry. You immediately get 600 points if you have a provincial nomination. See Provincial Immigrant Nomination Programs (PNPs).

The additional 600 CRS points virtually guarantee you an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence in an Express Entry draw.

For example, Johanna has a bachelor’s degree. She’s been working in food sciences for five years. Aisha has never worked or studied in Canada. She has an advanced English language proficiency.

Johanna entered the Express Entry pool with a CRS score of 370. However, she recently obtained a provincial nomination through OINP. As a result IRCC awards her additional 600 points.

Consequently, Johanna’s total CRS score jumps to 970 points! This is well above the minimum CRS score that Johanna needs to get an ITA in any Express Entry draw.

IRCC will issue qualified PNP candidates in the Express Entry pool an invitation to apply for permanent residence. After IRCC approves your application you complete the landing process, and officially become a Canadian permanent resident.

Eligibility for Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream

OINP’s Skilled Trades Stream targets skilled trades workers in the construction and agricultural sectors but could expand in the future.

Ontario’s Express Entry-linked Skilled Trades Stream offers a pathway to permanent residency for Federal Skilled Worker Program and Canadian Experience Class candidates. The OINP invites eligible candidates in these federal programs to apply for a provincial nomination.

To be eligible, candidates need to be living in Ontario with a valid work permit. They also need to have a minimum of one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work. They must have completed this work experience in the province in a skilled trade listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73, or 82 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC).

You must have a valid profile in the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC’s) Express Entry system. And very importantly, you must receive a Notification of Interest from Ontario before you can apply for nominated by the Ontario government.

If you get a nomination, your next step will be to apply to the federal government through IRCC. They make the final decision on who becomes a permanent resident.

You do not need a job offer to apply.

Important steps for nomination under Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream

The first step to apply for nomination under Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream is to submit a profile to the IRCC’s Express Entry System. You must have a profile in IRCC’s Express Entry System before Ontario government can invite you for nomination.

Ontario searches IRCC’s Express Entry pool to find candidates who may meet the criteria of one of Ontario’s Express Entry streams.

If they identify you as a candidate, they will send you a notification of interest through your IRCC online account inviting you to submit an online application to the OINP.

It is important to note that:

  • an Express Entry profile does not guarantee that you will get invitation to apply to the OINP
  • a notification of interest does not guarantee you will receive a certificate of nomination

Also importantly, you must demonstrate that you meet all stream requirements at the time of your application. This includes that you had the qualifications that you claimed in your Express Entry profile.

If IRCC determines that any information provided in your Express Entry profile is not accurate, is incorrect, or misleading, your application may be denied, and you may be subject to penalties or prosecution.
