Canada Express Entry – August 2021 total Permanent Residents (PRs) landed. Canada recorded one of its strongest months for new PR arrivals in August 2021. Prior to the pandemic, Canada welcomed between 25,000 and 35,000 new immigrants in a given month.

Canada continues to emphasize its needs for immigrants to help recover from the pandemic’s economic impact.

In the first half of the year, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) took significant steps to support Canada’s ability to achieve the goal.

In addition, in May 2021, IRCC launched six temporary immigration streams that will allow some 90,000 candidates currently living in Canada to transition to permanent residence.

In a recent Globe and Mail article, Canada’s immigration minister says “We are going to make good on our commitment to land 401,000 new permanent residents.”

However, concerns remain whether Canada will be able to meet these targets. See for example Will Canada fall short of its 2021 immigration target?

In order to achieve this target, Canada needs to land some 179,000 new immigrants this year. That is an average of 45,000 per month for the rest of 2021

Canada continues to introduce temporary programs to get to its target. For instance, Canada introduced six new permanent residency streams. These new streams will enable 90,000 international student graduates and essential workers to remain in Canada.

Canada’s goal is to process some 40,000 of these applications by the end of this year.

Canada Express Entry system

Canada uses the Canada Express Entry system to manage most immigration applications. Express Entry system is also the most popular way to immigrate to Canada.

Express Entry system draws occur regularly, but approximately every two weeks.

In each draw, Canada issues candidates Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence.

Very importantly, only a limited number get ITAs.

In order to enter the federal Express Entry pool, candidates must first create an Express Entry profile.

As well, you must meet the eligibility requirements for one of the three programs. These are: the Federal Skilled Worker Class; the Federal Skilled Trades Class; and the Canadian Experience Class.

A job offer is not required to enter or be selected from the Express Entry pool. However, additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points are awarded to those who already have a job.

A total of 1,200 points is available. Out of that, 600 points are available for a job offer or a nomination under any of Canada’s Provincial Immigrant Nomination Programs (PNPs).

A candidate’s CRS score is based on factors such as age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French.

Individual applicant or a couple may get CRS points. As well, candidates do not need experience in Canada.

Your CRS is a numerical value, out of a possible 1,200 points. Canada determines it based on your core human capital. This is essentially your:

  • age
  • work experience
  • educational background
  • ability to adapt, and
  • language skills

Next step is for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to approve your application. Then you complete the landing process. After that, you will officially become a Canadian permanent resident.

An Express Entry candidate typically needs a CRS score of 470-490 points in a regular draw to receive a permanent residence invitation.

To get to these higher scores candidates need to maximize their points on all available factors.

Many candidates do not claim all of their points because they are not aware that they are eligible for them.  Moreover, many do not know how to maximize their eligible factors.

Certain factors, as well as combinations of factors, get more points than others.
