Latest Express Entry draw invites 500 skilled trades candidates
In the latest Express Entry draw held May 15th, Canada issued invitations to apply (ITA) to 500 Federal Skilled Trades Class candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score as low as 332. The program-specific draw was the first since September 24, 2018, to target candidates in the Federal Skilled Trades Class, which is open to foreign nationals with a certificate of qualification that proves they are qualified to work in a skilled trade occupation in Canada OR an eligible offer of employment in Canada.
The Federal Skilled Trades Class is one of three economic-class immigration programs managed by the federal Express Entry system, with the other two being the Federal Skilled Worker Class and the Canadian Experience Class. The Express System also manages certain aspects of the Provincial Nomination Programs.
Required skilled work experience for the Federal Skilled Trades Class falls under the following categories of Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC):
- Major Group 72: Industrial, electrical and construction trades
- Major Group 73: Maintenance and equipment operation trades
- Major Group 82: Supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production
- Major Group 92: Processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
- Minor Group 632: Chefs and cooks
- Minor Group 633: Butchers and bakers
Unlike regular Express Entry draws, program-specific draws tend to be based on lower scores. The cut-off score for this FSTC draw was 332, which was 106 points lower than the lowest cut-off score this year in the general all-program Express Entry draw, which was 438.
