Canada issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence to 775 candidates in the November 10 Express Entry PNP draw.

Candidates in the November 10 Express Entry PNP draw were nominated by a Canadian province, under Provincial Nominee Programs. Also, they scored at least 685 points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

A candidate’s CRS score is based on factors such as age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French.

You may pre-qualify for a Canada immigration program.

Individual applicant or a couple may get CRS points. Candidates do not need to have any experience in Canada in order to get ITA for permanent residence.

What is Canada Express Entry Immigration System?

Express Entry is the application system that Canada uses to manage skilled worker applications. It also is the most popular way to immigrate to Canada.

Express Entry draws for Canada permanent residence occur regularly, but approximately every two weeks.

In each draw, Canada issues qualified candidates from the Express Entry pool an invitation to apply for permanent residence.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) approves your application and you complete the landing process. Thereafter, you are officially a Canadian permanent resident.

To enter the federal Express Entry pool, candidates must first create an Express Entry profile on IRCC website.

As well, you must meet the eligibility requirements for one of the three programs. These are: the Federal Skilled Worker Class; the Federal Skilled Trades Class; and the Canadian Experience Class.

You do not need a job offer to enter or be selected from the Express Entry pool. However, IRCC awards additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points to those who already have a job.

Your CRS is a numerical value, out of a possible 1,200. It is generally determined by your core human capital. This is essentially your

  • age
  • work experience
  • educational background
  • ability to adapt, and as well as,
  • language skills

Importantly, only a limited number of candidates with the highest CRS points in the pool get Invitations to Apply (ITAs).

Canada PNPs and the Express Entry system

Canadian provinces do not have the power to give permanent residency status. However, they can nominate you for PR in the federal government’s Express Entry system.

A total of 1,200 points is available under Express Entry. You immediately get 600 points if you are nominated by a province. See Provincial Immigrant Nomination Programs (PNPs).

How does PNP nomination help your Canada immigration application?

The 600 CRS points from a PNP nomination virtually guarantee that you will receive an ITA in an Express Entry draw.

For example, Alimat has a bachelor’s degree. She’s been working in the advertising industry for six years. Alimat has never worked or studied in Canada.

Alimat entered the Express Entry pool with a CRS score of 360. However, she recently obtained a provincial nomination through Ontario Immigrant Nomination Program (OINP). As a result IRCC awards her additional 600 points.

Consequently, Alimat’s total CRS score jumps to 960 points! This is well above the minimum CRS score of 685 required for Alimat to get an ITA during the latest draw.

How to improve your Express Entry CRS score

An Express Entry candidate typically needs a CRS score of 470-490 points in a regular draw to receive an invitation. Provincial Nominee draws require typically over 700 points due to the bonus 600 points.

To get to these higher scores candidates need to maximize their points on all available factors.

We advise that you continue to improve your Express Entry CRS scoring. See, for instance, Tips for Improving Express Entry CRS Scores.
