About Canada Express Entry System

Trust CanImmNewsletter to bring you the latest about Canada Express Entry.

Canada uses the Express Entry to manage skilled worker applications. It is also the most popular way that foreigners use to immigrate to Canada.

In sum, to enter the federal Express Entry pool, firstly and most importantly, candidates create an Express Entry profile.

Secondly and similarly important, you must meet the eligibility requirements for one of the three programs. These are the Federal Skilled Worker Class; the Federal Skilled Trades Class; and the Canadian Experience Class.

IRCC does not require you to have a job offer to enter the Express Entry pool. However, IRCC awards additional CRS points to those who already have a job or job offer.

Based on your information, IRCC then gives you a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Then, IRCC places you into pool of candidates for permanent residence (PR).

See How does Canada Express Entry CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) work?

Very important, to clarify, only a few candidates with highest CRS score are invited for PR.

Your CRS is a numerical value, out of a possible 1,200 points. IRCC calculates it using your core human capital.

In summary, these are your:

  • age
  • work experience
  • education
  • ability to adapt, and
  • language skills.

To clarify, IRCC issues invitations through regular federal Express Entry draws. These typically take place every two weeks.

Congratulations! Once IRCC approves your application, then you complete the landing process. Effectively, you are now a Canadian permanent resident!
