The Express Entry system allows Canada to actively recruit, assess and select skilled immigrants under the following federal economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Class; the Federal Skilled Trades Class; and the Canadian Experience Class.

Eligible candidates under these categories are entered into the Express Entry pool, where they are ranked based on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores. A job offer is not required in order to be eligible for placement in the Express Entry pool.

A candidate’s CRS score is based on factors such as age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French. The cut-off score in the latest draw was 462, three points lower than the previous draw held June 12 and marking the second consecutive cut-off score decrease since May 29, when it reached 470. The highest-ranked candidates are issued invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residence, known as ITAs, through regular draws from the pool, which typically happen every two weeks.

A job offer is not required in order to be eligible for placement in the Express Entry pool. Find out if you are eligible to enter the Express Entry pool.

IRCC ranks candidates in the pool using a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). We select the highest-ranking candidates from the pool and invite them to apply for permanent residence.

Each invitation round has a set of instructions that are:

  • posted online at the time of the invitation round
  • used by the Express Entry system to invite candidates from the pool

The instructions include:

  • the date and time of the invitation round
  • the number of candidates that will get an invitation to apply
  • which immigration program(s) are included in the round (some invitation rounds may only invite candidates for 1 program, for example only from Federal Skilled Trades)

Check your score and then use this information to see how likely you are to get an invitation in the next round.

Express Entry reports

IRCC has also updated the table that shows how much money you need to settle in Canada. You may need to update your settlement fund numbers in your Express Entry profile. Making updates to your profile doesn’t change the date and time that we received it, so you’ll keep your rank if you’re in a tie-breaker situation.
