April 17 Express Entry Draw
In the April 17 Express Entry Draw, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3,350 invitations to apply (ITAs) for Canadian permanent residence to candidates with profiles in the federal Express Entry system.
Invitations to apply went out to candidates with scores as low as 451. The federal Express Entry system is the online application management system for three of Canada’s main economic immigration programs:
Profiles submitted into the Express Entry pool receive a score out of a maximum 1,200 points based on factors that include age, education, work experience and proficiency in one or both of Canada’s official languages (English and French).
Those invited have 60 days to submit a complete permanent residence application package to IRCC from the date of receiving an ITA.
Candidates in the Express Entry pool can take steps to improve their score and ranking.
Canada has now issued a total of 27,900 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to Express Entry candidates in 2019. In 2018 Canada set the current Express Entry ITA record of 89,800 with a total of 21,000 ITAs issued by April 17.
IRCC has higher admissions targets for its three Federal High Skilled classes in 2019 and 2020, so it is possible that the 2019 ITA total will surpass 2018’s record.
A provincial nomination results in an additional 600 CRS points, effectively guaranteeing an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry draw. See Canada Provincial Nominee Programs.
